Allyson  R. Pitts

Judge Allyson R. Pitts was appointed to serve as judge in the Municipal Court of Atlanta by Mayor Andre Dickens in 2025. Judge Pitts is a Detroit native and proud graduate of Cass Technical High School who has resided in Atlanta since 1986. Judge Pitts graduated from Wayne State University in Detroit with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology.  In 1995 she received her Juris Doctor Degree from West Virginia University College of Law and was admitted to the State Bar of Georgia on November 21, 1995

Judge Pitts acquired significant legal experience as a law clerk in Fulton County Superior Court, a Senior Trial Attorney with the Fulton County Public Defender’s Office, and a sole practitioner.  Her practice areas have ranged from criminal defense to domestic relations and personal injury to probate.

In May 2007, Judge Pitts was sworn in as an Associate Judge for the City of East Point Municipal Court, where she still serves today.  On March 15,2010, Judge Pitts was sworn in as the Chief Judge of the Municipal Court of Forest Park, making history as its first African American female to serve as chief judge in that city’s court.  In April2012, Judge Pitts was sworn in as a Magistrate/Judicial Officer in the Family Division of Fulton County Superior Court. In July 2017, she was sworn in as a Magistrate in Fulton County Magistrate Court.  Judge Pitts was sworn in on April 24, 2017, as a Pro Hac Judge with the City of Atlanta Municipal Court.  In March 2020, Judge Pitts was sworn in as a Part-Time Judge in the Fulton County Juvenile Court.  Finally, Judge Pitts is a Certified Mediator.

Judge Pitts is admitted to practice in the trial courts of Georgia, the Georgia Court of Appeals, the Georgia Supreme Court, the Federal District Court of Georgia, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court in Washington, D.C.

Judge Pitts has been honored with several awards and other forms of recognition in the legal field, including being named one of Georgia’s Rising Stars in the Atlanta Magazine and the Georgia Super Lawyers – Rising Star Edition, and one of Atlanta’s Who’s Who in the Law Industry in the Atlanta Business Chronicle.  Judge Pitts also received the Gate City Bar Association Judicial Section Thelma Wyatt Moore Legacy Award and the Horace Ward Legacy Award.  She was honored by the Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys with an award as its 23rd President for her outstanding leadership and service and she was awarded the Atlanta Metro Lions Club Leadership Award.
